Why Struggle Is Part of the Spiritual Path
It’s easy to believe that spiritual growth should feel peaceful, fluid, and full of clarity. But the truth is often messier.
Growth doesn’t always come during meditation, or journaling with incense in the air.
Sometimes, it shows up when you’re exhausted. When the dishes pile up. When you’re moving across states. When you’re running on two hours of sleep because your baby was up crying all night. When you haven’t had a moment of silence in days and your thoughts are scattered across a dozen worries.
That’s real life. That’s the human condition.
And that—whether we like it or not—is exactly where the spiritual journey happens.
I’ve Been Living This Lesson
These last 7 weeks have been intense.
After making the decision to move from California back to Washington, life got chaotic. Packing, driving long hours, unloading everything into a new place, settling into a new rhythm. All while raising my baby girl, trying to maintain our sacred space, support my family, and keep up with the responsibilities that don’t pause just because you’re exhausted.
There were days I felt guilty for not posting. For falling behind. For not showing up when I had once made it a rhythm.
But what I didn’t realize in the moment is… I was still on the path.
I wasn’t off course—I was walking through the most human part of it.
And that’s when I understood: the human condition is not the enemy of your spiritual growth. It’s the fuel.
You’re Not Broken. You’re Being Shaped.
We all crave peace, focus, and consistency. But the real work of spiritual development often happens in the tension between your ideals and your reality.
- When you snap out of habit and catch yourself mid-reaction.
- When you pause and choose a deep breath instead of frustration.
- When you sit in your car, close your eyes, and whisper a prayer because it’s the only quiet you’ve had all day.
- When you feel like you’re failing, but you show up again anyway.
That is sacred.
That is what it means to be both human and divine—to wrestle with exhaustion, confusion, and fear while still seeking your center.
Don’t Wait for Perfect Conditions to Begin Again
Too often, we tell ourselves we’ll start fresh when life calms down. When the house is in order. When the to-do list is smaller. When we feel like we’re “in the zone.”
But that day rarely comes.
Spiritual growth is not about achieving a perfectly zen state. It’s about finding presence in the middle of the storm. It’s about letting the chaos polish you instead of breaking you.
Real spirituality is messy.
It includes the diaper changes, the overdue bills, the missed alarms, and the deep sighs when you’re just trying to hold it all together.
And that’s okay.
Here’s What I’ve Learned (and Want You to Remember)
- The path doesn’t disappear just because you stumble. You’re still walking it.
- Spiritual strength is built in mundane moments. Not just in sacred spaces.
- You’re not behind. You’re being prepared.
- The human condition is not a distraction—it’s a divine classroom. Your soul came here to experience it.
Let’s Keep Walking—Together
Starting this week, I’m returning to the rhythm of Sunday blogs—not because everything is perfect now, but because I’ve remembered why I started:
To walk this path with you. To grow together.
And to honor the journey—not just when it’s easy, but especially when it’s not.
So if you’ve been feeling like life got in the way of your growth… know this:
You are not lost. You are learning.
And your messiness is not a setback—it’s proof that you’re still becoming.
Let’s rise from the dirt, scarred but sacred.
Let’s walk into the week—not perfectly, but intentionally.
